The Public Realm
Planning our town
This theme is about the design and development of our town - how it looks, what facilities it needs, what goes where, and just as importantly, what doesn’t!
We want your views to add to the studies that are being done on land-use, future developments, public space and amenities so that Chippenham is a great place to live, work and visit.
So, what’s the plan?
We want to make sure that any proposed or existing development is carefully considered and meets the needs and aspirations of the town centre and its surrounding area.
To do this we need a Masterplan and framework for development that defines the town centre and its linkages and offers solutions to how space and locations can best be used. By creating a picture of the whole town we want to avoid the mistakes of isolated or piecemeal development.
Any new development should enhance the town and integrate well with other buildings and facilities, pedestrian and transport routes, and public open space. Existing developments too should play their part in improving how our town looks and functions.
